The Mets decided to finally fire manager Willie Randolph earlier this morning. Pitching coach Rick Peterson and the first-base coach Tom Nieto were also canned. There were no reports on whether or not the Mets were going to keep their second-base coach on the roster.

Mariners fire hitting coach; Rotoworld.com makes us laugh
By Micah Warren | Leave a Comment
The Mariners, owners of the worst record in baseball, have fired hitting coach Jeff Pentland. Rotoworld.com comments on it way better than we could. Rotoworld.com says of the move:
“The Mariners have the game’s worst record despite a top-10 payroll, and it’s obviously Pentland’s fault. He’ll know better next time not to overpay for […]
Sources say Porter next Suns coach
By Micah Warren | 1 Comment
Multiple sources have told ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith that Terry Porter will be named head coach of the Phoenix Suns. This means that Smith is better informed than Shaq, who was interviewed at the Belmont Stakes earlier today and said he had no idea what the plan was.
Tampa Bay Lightning: Winning a title in a BS hockey town not enough
By Micah Warren | 1 Comment
Tampa Bay Lightning head coach John Tortorella, who won a championship for the ungrateful team in 2004, won’t be asked back for next season.
“This has been a very difficult decision because of everything that John Tortorella has meant to and done for this organization,” general manager Jay Feaster said in a statement. “Torts came to […]
Flip flopped?
By Perry | 2 Comments
The Detroit Pistons announced today that they parted ways with coach Flip Saunders.
“Decisions like this are difficult to make, especially with the success we have had throughout the last three regular seasons,” President of basketball operations Joe Dumars said in a statement. “However, at this time, I feel it is necessary to make a change.”

We can’t ignore the overwhelming support we are receiving from our biggest fan ‘barry.’ He is one of the main reasons that OTR is able to keep it going. His brilliant posting on comments and the respect he gives Micah and I is second to none. Furthermore, without hesitation we are giving […]

By Micah Warren | 2 Comments
Larry Brown is now the official team wrecker head coach of the Charlotte Bobcats.
“How are you going to say no to Michael?” Brown said. “I’ve known him a long time. The things he stands for have made our game better. There’s no way I could say no to him. It was a pretty easy decision […]

An odd thing happened over the past couple weeks. Famous people affiliated with sports (players, coaches, and analysts), started emailing me with questions and comments. By Micah Warren | Leave a Comment
We’ve received a bunch of emails complaining that OTR wasn’t long enough and didn’t display enough stories. People were upset that they had to click the “Archives” button to see the stuff they missed. Well, your whiny complaints have been heard! We expanded our home page of the blog to include the […]
Perry’s Mailbag: Coming Soon To A Friday Near You
By Perry | 1 Comment
I want to apologize for not getting Perry’s Mailbag up last Friday, especially to one of OTR’s dearest fans Lindsey. As most of you know, I was following the Asante Samuel story in Boston on Thursday night and continued my hot pursuit all day Friday until the early evening press conference around 5:00pm EST that […]
Flush That Turd Down The Toilet
By Perry | Leave a Comment
Sean Salisbury will not be calling John Clayton the ‘crypt keeper’ as an ESPN employee anymore. In what has been long overdue, ESPN has dumped Salisbury like the turd he is. In my opinion, he has never said anything relevant or intelligent. All he liked to do was pick fights with little John Clayton and […]

-The Saints are currently in the lead for the services of Asante Samuel. Samuel supposedly wants between $10 and $11 million per year. Off The Record (OTR): Well, he ain’t worth it. He’s a nice player for sure. […]

By Micah Warren | Leave a Comment
The Cleveland Indians have agreed to a one-year deal with third baseman Casey Blake. Blake hit .270 in 2007 with 18 bombs and 78 RBI. Not exactly incredible numbers, but he wasn’t a turd either. He made $3.75 million last year and will eligible for free agency after the 2008 season.
Al Davis Wants Lane Kiffin to Resign
By Micah Warren | Leave a Comment
This is hilarious. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen is reporting that Raiders owner Al Davis wants head coach Lane Kiffin to resign after just one year. Supposedly, Kiffin has essentially (or not so essentially) dared Davis to fire him. I love the fact that Davis has gone so far as to draft a letter […]
Falcons Want to Hire Jags Defensive Coordinator Mike Smith
By Micah Warren | Leave a Comment
Apparently, even if you have a horrendous gameplan in the playoffs, you can still advance in your career. ESPN’s Michael Smith is reporting that the Falcons are leaning towards hiring Jaguars defensive coordinator Mike Smith as their head coach. Smith was the guy who thought if he stopped Randy Moss that he would […]
