I know I will get in trouble for this post. Yes, I am a die-hard Philadelphia fan. I grew up in South Jersey and know the area well. I also know the fan base well, and when I see stupid crap like this, I have to comment. This will endear me to about zero Philly fans, and that’s fine because I’m sick of it.

Look at this picture. “Philly fan 45 years, J-Roll fan no longer. Trade him.”

For those that don’t know, Jimmy Rollins recently referred to Philly fans as “front-runners.” While he shouldn’t have said that publicly, I have acknowledged in this blog, on GCobb.com and on 610 WIP that he’s probably right. When it comes to the Phillies, Philly fans go sour quickly.

OTR does a pretty good job of not swearing. We don’t want to create an environment where kids can’t read. If you are a child under the age of 18 and aren’t accompanied by an adult, please stop reading. OTR is about to swear.

Philly fans have been lighting up talk radio with comments that are similar to this guy’s sign. Jimmy Rollins is all of a sudden public enemy #1 for making statements that, if you stop and thought for half a second, are true.

So my message to Philly fans is this: Stop crying you fucking babies. Who gives a flying shit if he called us front-runners? I am so sick of this whining and bitching because we haven’t won this and he said this or that. Grow a pair and shut your fucking mouth.

It’s not just this instance. I think the entire city hates Merrill Hoge because one year he didn’t pick the Eagles to make the playoffs. Waahhhh, waaaahhh. So fucking what! It’s his job to offer his opinion, no matter how smart or stupid that opinion is. But these fans act like it’s a personal afront and that him not picking the Eagles to do well was the equivalent of him pissing on the Liberty Bell. Shut the fuck up. You make the whole city look bad. We have a reputation for a reason.

One of the reasons I’m so pissed off about this is because a part of me believes that the fans are a reason why this town hasn’t won shit in 25 years. Negativity breeds negativity, and Philly is teaming with it. Rollins probably has a point. The booing takes its toll on players no matter how much we want to think that they are above it all and inhuman because they have a big paycheck. Stop acting like assholes.

When I saw this guy’s sign, all I could think of was what a jackass he looks like. It’s ok to boo and behave like fucking crybabies, but god forbid someone calls you out on it. So fucking sensitive, we can’t take an ounce of criticism.

Philly fans: Shut the fuck up. Man up to the fact that you are insecure about your sports teams and stop making me look bad because I root for teams in the 215 area code.

I await my death threats.

I agree, Phillie fans can dish it out, but they can’t deal with ANY criticism thrown back at them . As for the “”language” in the article, although written so that Phillie fans would get the “jist” of the article , is wasting all those $$ ’s spent in a University to “learn” a more descriptive use of the English vocabulary. ( sigh)

I hear you, Micah. While he may have made a mistake in saying what he said, his bigger mistake is the way that he has carried himself.

First they (Rollins and the Phillies) lie about his injury and say nothing was broken (it was, and I believe it may still be bothering him).

Then dude is late for the game in New York, and acts like a child with zero accountability.

Now this drama. It’s time for the Jason Donald era to begin next year. Trade this waste of skin in the offseason and move on.

He is right about Philly fans though. Frontrunner was indeed the wrong word, but his point was accurate. Pat the Bat is a perfect example. So is Howard, and Rollins as well.

I don’t get the whole booing thing to begin with, at least not how Philly fan uses it. When you boo all the time, it doesn’t do any good at all.

If Phillies fans really wanted to make a statement they should have let out a huge cheer when J. Roll took the plate for the first time. Kill ‘em with kindness. He would have felt like such an idiot if the fan would have cheered for him. He would have been like…”What?”

Didn’t you TEAR into some of the players for saying the same thing?

  5. Micah Warren on August 20th, 2008 10:28 am

He was wrong to say it. He shouldn’t have said it. One of the reasons he shouldn’t have said it is because of the way the fan base takes criticism.

Hey Micah, first time, long time. Philly fans make want to stop going to games. They nauseate me. Was wondering if you had any opinions on the Women’s beach volleyball final? I am a huge Misty May fan. John Guilfoil LOVES the caps lock.

First off Micah. Calm your Jersey ass down. Because you know what Jimmy wasn’t talking about his fans that reside just a few blocks from the stadium that have generations of Phillies fans that have purchased season tickets for years and years. He was talking about the influx of teenie-boppin a-holes that have come to this new ballpark. This new ballpark is not conducive to the avid baseball fan, it is marketed to the person that is out to have a good time. Half the people in that stadium are bombed before even setting foot in the door, and it just so happens that when they look past their bottle of beer something is going wrong in the game and they boo. What I am trying to get at is they aren’t paying attention to the game as a whole they are just looking at individual plays here and there when they are not dicking around with all the other bells and whistles in that stadium.

It just seems like the crazy ass eagle fans jumped ship onto the Phillies because they have a better shot at winning in the present. I am an eagles fan, but the same thing happened to them and is a deterant for me going to the games. A bunch of suburban and Jersey douches that don’t know how to act in public.

And if you are embarrassed to support teams from the 215. STOP CROSSING THE FUCKING BRIDGE!

I’m on the fence with this one. I have always thought booing a struggling player is counter productive. Do you think making Pat Burrell dread coming to the plate last year made him settle in more and concentrate on what he needs to do? I highly doubt it. He came around after people got tired of booing (half way through the year, because us Philly fans don’t give up easily).

That being said, Jimmy Rollins could have used alot better verbage and tone to make his point (if it was really necessary to make his point at all).

Philadelphia fans are loyal to their teams like no other city and we REALLY want to win. Sometimes we express that in the wrong manner towards individuals on our teams which, again, may be counter productive.

I didn’t know you had to cross a bridge to support a team.

I only wish you were still in the P.R.O. League so I could hear you and V. banter on this topic during the draft.

Seriously, I originally was ticked at Rollins for calling us frontrunners — until I listened to his logic behind the comment. His explanation made sense to those with enough of an open mind to hear the man out. He is guilty of nothing more than poor word choice.

  11. Micah Warren on August 21st, 2008 11:55 am

Agreed, Frank. My point wasn’t even so much about the reaction to Rollins’ comments. Just in general we are a sensitive fan base.

Got something to say?
