Golden State Warrior Baron Davis decided to opt out of his contract that would have paid him $17.8 million. It’s being reported that Baron Davis is unhappy playing in Golden State with Don Nelson and will be looking to play for another team next season. One of the teams that Baron Davis would like to play for is the New York Knicks. Memphis and Philadelphia have the most cap room available, but probably not enough to bring in Davis (nor have they expressed interest), so a sign-and-trade is most likely.
In similar-situation-related-news, Los Angeles Clipper Elton Brand opted out of his contract forgoing $16.4 million. Unlike Davis, Brand has indicated that he would like to resign with his team, “We’re opting out,” Brand said. “It definitely doesn’t mean I’m leaving the Clippers. We’re trying to work it out. My intention is to stay.”
Brand will be looking for a deal in the 4 years, $60 million area.
The Miami Heat have expressed interest in Brand and also the Philadelphia 76ers.
Corey Maggette also opted out of his contract with the Clippers.

Got something to say?

Perry, why would Brand opt out of a $16.4 mil contract to sign a $15 mil per year contract? Security for four years?
You answered it.
