The Detroit Red Wings scored two goals in the first period and that’s all they needed to defeat the Dallas Stars. Darren Helm scored his first in the playoffs and Henrik Zetterberg netted his eighth in route to a 2-1 victory in Game Two of the Western Conference finals to take a two games to none advantage as they head to Dallas.
However, when the buzzer sounded to end the game on Saturday night, Dallas forward Mike Ribeiro swung his stick from behind the net, hitting Detroit netminder Chris Osgood in the chest and sending him backward onto the ice. Ribeiro’s act was in response to Osgood unintentionally hitting Ribeiro in the face with the butt-end of his stick. Unfortunately, the ‘butt-end of his stick’ had no resemblance to Shakira’s ‘butt-end,’ so receiving that in the face was not enjoyable for Ribeiro.
Let the war of words begin.
“That’s totally uncalled for,” Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom said. “He two-handed Ozzie right in the chest. I think he should be suspended for doing something like that.”
“A butt-end to somebody’s face at any time is pretty gutless,” Dallas goalie Marty Turco said. “Just sticking your knob out there is a dangerous play. I’ve caught guys, my own teammates, around the net, and I’ve seen guys get major injuries to the face. It’s something our game doesn’t need if that did happen.”
“He probably skated through my stick and that would be it,” Osgood said. “I don’t think that justified a two-hander over the top of the net. He could have went about it a different way or said something to me. We’re professionals out there, and we can go about it in the right manner.”
I expect Game Three to be very physical, but this might play right into Detroit’s plans. Dallas is a very clean team and they don’t want to turn this series into a physical one; it will get them right out of their game plan.

Got something to say?

C’mon that’s a dive! He didn’t hit him that hard. I’m not defending the act, but no way did Osgood need to be rolling around like that.
I agree, but now it’s on…IT’S ON….OHH IT’S ON!!!!!!!
You will do anything for comments.
you mean coments? Should we just text each other? Email?
Osgood asked for that and it was nothing… it looked bad but didn’t hurt Osgood one little bit (the chest protector stops 100 mph slapshots… that slash was probably barely felt by Osgood if he felt it at all)
“skated through my stick…” Yeah, sure, Osgood! I saw you move your your butt-end into his face! Goalies can get away with a lot on the ice, and they take every inch they can.
