By Perry

jimmyrollins2.jpgA source has contacted OTR that Jimmy Rollins’ injury is more than just a sprained ankle. Jimmy Rollins actually has a broken bone in his ankle. On April 20th, Jimmy was placed on the 15 day DL for a sprained ankle, but he could stay on the DL longer than first anticipated.

The 2007 National League MVP has only played in 12 of the 21 games this year, but the Phillies have managed well without him. However, Rollins is a vital piece to this team if they have any chance of winning back-to-back National League East titles.

Update: Here is an update on the situation.

Would a broken bone be better than an ankle sprain? I would think it would be better for him in the long run…rather than having a nagging ankle.

  2. Perry on April 23rd, 2008 10:57 am

Yes, and it’s possible that Jimmy Rollins will only be on the DL for the scheduled 15 days.

  3. Stein on April 23rd, 2008 11:03 am

With a high quality backup like Bruntlett, is there any rush to bring back Rollins?

**wonder if the Phillies have a rule regarding players losing their job because of injury**

  4. J. MorrOnu on April 23rd, 2008 11:40 am

    Stein:
Does your last comment indicate that you think Bruntlett is a better shortstop than Jimmy Rollins??? Were you being sarcastic???

If you’re serious about Bruntlett winning the starting SS job for the Phillies, I’d love to know what you’re smoking and where I can score some….

  5. Micah Warren on April 23rd, 2008 11:43 am

Morroni, he was kidding. Bruntlett is cock. The dog catching frisbees in the outfield before the game knows it.

  6. John Rocker on April 23rd, 2008 11:48 am

The natural talent that Bruntlett has, man, you can’t coach that.

  7. The Sports Idiot on April 23rd, 2008 12:46 pm

You guys are a little tough on Bruntlett. Sure, he has 3 errors and can’t hit for shit, but he has made some nice plays on defense nonetheless. Would I want him on my team? Um, no.

  8. J. Morroni on April 23rd, 2008 12:49 pm

I thought he was joking at first glance, but then the “losing a job to injury” tag threw me off. To be honest, with the NHL playoffs I haven’t been watching enough Phillies action to know how bad Bruntlett is (in addition to my opinion that most MLB short-stops can’t hang with J. Roll)…

On the other hand, Bruntlett does have a pretty cool beard

  9. John Rocker on April 23rd, 2008 1:06 pm

I would put Pat Burrell at short if I was Charlie. In addition to his comparisons as a Frisbee dog and a gazelle, you might want to add human vacuum to that list.

  10. James (phili) on April 23rd, 2008 4:43 pm

Jimmy will be out the full 6 weeks or so for sure. Look for it to be longer. The break that he has and what E.Snow has are way different.

Could this be wrong? No web site has confirmed it, and I’ve been listening to Philly sports radio and they aren’t talking about it. Maybe the Phils want to keep it quiet, but these things usually get out once the news is broken.

  13. Micah Warren on April 23rd, 2008 5:31 pm

As far as I’m concerned, the only and true “Off The Record” is with Micheal Landsberg.

But this J-Roll character is quite a player. Unfortunate for those Philly fans.

Hi Mark, you might look a little less like a jackass if you checked the name on this report. It’s not my report, dufus. If you are going to take shots at someone, you might want to make sure you know what you are talking about.

  27. Ty Stewart on April 24th, 2008 9:08 am

let’s talk Hamels……so after giving up 3 ER in the 1st inning, he throws a great game and through 7 IP is at 111 pitches and 11K. They bring him back out for the 8th?? I thought that was odd considering the pitch count and the injury history.

even if you are gonna bring him back out, it should be one of those things were if a runner gets on, he’s done. Nope, not Manuel. Next thing you know the Phillies have lost the game and Cole has thrown 121 pitches. Are they THAT afraid to use Flash? since the 1st week he’s been fine I thought.

thank you for your thoughts Phils fans.

  28. Micah Warren on April 24th, 2008 9:18 am

Hey Ty, Charlie Manuel ain’t that bright, huh? You’ll learn what we’ve learned over the past few year. They are maddening.

  33. Chris on April 24th, 2008 11:12 am

This site is terrible. Bunch of alarmists. Never taking anything reported from here seriously again. In fact, I would urge everybody to simply stay away from this site.

  34. Micah Warren on April 24th, 2008 11:17 am

Mark, I agree. I’m responsible. But I stand by Perry’s report. His source is gold. We wouldn’t put something up that was just speculation, I promise.

  35. mark on April 24th, 2008 11:19 am

    Mark,

If you don’t want to seem uneducated, then perhaps you should mix in some proper grammar. Just a suggestion.

Did he take BP today or not?

  40. Micah Warren on April 24th, 2008 2:16 pm

I’m not sure. What I would want to know is if he takes BP from both sides of the plate.

  41. Robert on April 24th, 2008 2:20 pm

Well, if it was broken period, I don’t think he would be in there at all.

  42. The Sports Idiot on April 24th, 2008 6:15 pm

I’m not sure about that, Robert. I think it would depend on the extent of the injury, and the placement of the break. They could have him go through a round of BP a day or so after a cortisone shot to see how he handles it. Personally, I will be surprised if I read that he took BP today at all, but the Phils are going to cover their asses so much on this that they may say he did even if he didn’t.

Hey Mark, glad to see that you can’t even spell idiot correctly. Proofread much? As for me being a smart ass, well, I’d rather be a smart ass than a dumb ass.

  43. mark on April 25th, 2008 10:15 am

Got something to say?
