A source told Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News that Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora won’t be at training camp in July if he doesn’t get a new deal.
Said the source: “I guarantee you he’s not coming to camp.”
While we understand the need to get paid, we also understand that Umenyiora just signed a new deal two years and three months ago that would keep him locked up until 2012. Why would the Giants renegotiate? He got $21 million over the first three years of that deal. Why was it ok then?
We’re still waiting for players (ahem…Jevon Kearse) to walk up the organizations and demand that they adjust their salary for poor play. This is ridiculous. Umenyiora had 13 sacks in 2007, that’s great right? Not really, he had six in one game while thoroughly owning Eagles’ young tackle Winston Justice. That means he had seven sacks over the other 15 games. That’s not very good.
Show up to camp, Osi.
