Former Raiders wide receiver Joey Porter is one happy dude. He tells the San Francisco Chronicle that life as a Raider was essentially hell, and who could blame him? He was well known as a malcontent in Oakland and hopes to start over as a Jaguar.
“I’ve been trying to start fresh for a while,” Porter told the Chronicle. “It is a bit of a relief to know you’re going somewhere that is very stable. They know exactly what direction they are going in. The quarterback situation is set, the coaching situation is set.
“My first three years in Oakland were great. As a rookie coming into the league, you go to the AFC Championship Game and you lose (the Super Bowl). I’m thinking NFL life is going to be sweet. The last five years have been just hell. I can’t even count how many head coaches I had, how many assistants I had. You can’t have the sweet without the bitter.”
Porter was a second-round pick out of West Virginia in 2000.
